Nearly everyone dabbled in watching the best shows on Netflix since streaming became a go-to form of TV. And when the best shows on Hulu and shows on Amazon Prime Video came into the mix, the competition really heated up. Then, slowly but surely, shows on Apple TV+ emerged that suddenly seemed to put the contest to rest. Their library is full of exciting top-rated original shows that you can't find on any other streaming service. Plus, it's relatively inexpensive compared to the other services!
From gripping dramas to heartwarming comedies, Apple TV+ has something for everyone. If you love true-crime podcasts as much as Ree Drummond, Truth Be Told is a dramatized look behind the scenes. Okay sometimes, you just want something heartwarming and family-friendly option! Well, look no further than the fan-favorite sports-comedy Ted Lasso and shows just like it. And when you're in the mood for a thrilling mystery, Home Before Dark follows the story of a young girl who becomes obsessed with solving a cold case in her small hometown. Ted Lasso
In this beloved sports comedy, an American football coach from Kansas named Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) is hired to manage a struggling English Premier League soccer team, AFC Richmond. Despite having no prior experience with soccer, Ted's positive attitude, wholesome charm, and unconventional coaching methods win over the players and some fans, while also annoying the team's cynical owner.
Severance
Severance is arguably the show that put Apple TV+ on the map! It's a juicy workplace thriller that follows the story of desk workers at Lumen Industries who have all opted into a company program called "severance." The controversial procedure splits the workers' memories of working hours from their home life. Each has their own reason for opting in; however, they soon begin to discover that there is more to it than meets the eye.
Dear Edward
Based on a novel by Ann Napolitano, Dear Edward tells the story of the lone survivor of a plane crash that kills all 191 other passengers, including his family. The series explores the aftermath of the tragedy as 12-year-old Edward struggles to cope with his grief, survivor's guilt, and newfound celebrity status while also grappling with the challenges of starting a new life.
The Reluctant Traveler
This eight-episode docuseries follows actor and anxiously "reluctant traveler" Eugene Levy as he steps out of his comfort zone to visit some of the world's most beautiful places. The show allows viewers to explore the world with a funny and heartwarming guide.
Shrinking
In this tender comedy-drama, viewers get a look into the troubles of someone who listens to everyone else's problems: a therapist (Harrison Ford). Jimmy (Jason Segel), recently widowed and father to a 17-year-old, begins throwing his training to the wind and decides to become radically honest with his patients.
Truth Be Told
If you like true-crime podcasts, you have to check out this clever show about the genre. Poppy Parnell (Octavia Spencer) is a true-crime podcaster who becomes obsessed with the case of Warren Cave (Aaron Paul), a man she helped to put behind bars for a murder he claims he did not commit. As Poppy delves deeper into the case, she discovers new evidence and begins to question whether she got it wrong.
Servant
Get ready for a seriously suspenseful psychological thriller (with Rupert Grint, aka Ron from Harry Potter). A Philadelphia couple finds their marriage fractured after they experience a tragic loss, and decide to hire a nanny to help them recover. However, as the nanny settles into their household, strange and unsettling events begin to occur, the couple starts to question who she really is and her true intentions.
The Mosquito Coast
This series is based on a best-selling novel by the same name and there's also a 1986 movie starring Harrison Ford! Allie Fox is a brilliant yet idealistic inventor who lives off the grid with his family. But when his wife makes a call to her parents, we learn that they're being tracked down by the U.S. government for an unknown reason. Fox decides to uproot his family for a dangerous quest through Mexico to find safety and a different kind of life.
Slow Horses
Dark and comic? Love it! Slow Horses is a British spy series that follows the story of Jackson Lamb, a brilliant but irascible former MI5 agent who is exiled to the Slough House—a department of the agency for disgraced spies known as "slow horses." Despite being sidelined, Lamb and his team of misfit colleagues find themselves drawn into a dangerous web of espionage and intrigue when they uncover a terrorist plot that threatens to shake the foundations of British democracy.
Bad Sisters
This exceedingly fun dark comedy centers on the tight-knit Garvey sisters, who had promised to always stick by each other after the premature death of their parents. But when one of their husbands ends up dead, life insurers end up investigating the sisters as each had ample reason to want him dead.
The Essex Serpent
Get your gothic romance drama fix with The Essex Serpent. Set in the late 19th century, the show follows Cora Seaborne, a widowed amateur naturalist who becomes fascinated by the legend of the Essex Serpent, a mythical creature said to haunt the marshes of the Essex coast. There, Hilde uncovers a cold case involving a missing boy and begins to investigate it on her own, uncovering shocking secrets and putting herself in danger.
Shantaram
Charlie Hunnman graces our screens again as Lin Ford, a convicted Australian bank robber and heroin addict who escapes from prison in the 1980s. Ford makes his way to India and reinvents himself as a doctor in the slums of Bombay. It's three that he falls for an enigmatic woman and tries to avoid trouble.
